I went shed hunting with a friend this weekend with high hopes of finding hundreds of sheds. The morning started with me getting up at 2 A.M. and driving to Santa Fe to meet Trent so we could get in his truck and head off to Valle Vidal for our shed hunt. We arrived as the sky was just light enough to spot elk feeding in the openings. There was plenty of elk to see and we noticed that some bulls had shed an antler or two while others had not. It was encouraging to see a truck full of sheds as we were driving to our spot where we would start our shed hunt. We parked and started walking, coverering a lot of groundand keeping our eyes peeled. We would stop on ocassion to glass the surrounding ground with our binoculars but really never saw anything that looked close to a shed. Some of the other shed hunters did quite well but for myself it felt like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The shed hunter that seemed to find the most sheds were hunting from horseback. Theses guys seemed like real pros and I certainly could learn a lot from these shed hunters. The trip was great as far as viewing wildlife and great scenery. We must have seen close to two hundred elk, sixty turkey, a half dozen deer, and one bobcat. As for the shed hunting, I think I will do the way I found all my other sheds....accidentaly
